What does Pixlr do?

Pixlr is a free online AI-powered photo editor and image creation suite you can use right in your browser, on mobile, or on desktop. It combines everyday editing with AI features for generating images from text prompts, removing backgrounds or objects, and adding creative effects without leaving the editor.

Use Pixlr’s AI tools to speed up common workflows like generative fill (describe what to add or replace), generative expand (extend your image beyond the frame), generative transform (move/resize/rotate objects with AI filling the gap), and remove noise or sharpen/upscale with AI. You can also create collages, swap faces in photos, and generate video and audio as part of the broader Pixlr media toolkit.

Save and share your results in PNG, JPEG, or WEBP. If you want offline editing, you can use Pixlr desktop apps for PC or Mac; Pixlr can also be used in supported browsers as a PWA.

Is Pixlr free to use?

Pixlr offers a free online experience for editing and AI generation in your browser. There are also premium options, including a 7-day all-access Premium trial, plus free education access.

What can I do with Pixlr’s AI image generator?

You generate images from text prompts. Create an image from your description, then continue refining it with Pixlr’s photo editing tools.

What’s the difference between Generative Fill, Generative Expand, and Generative Transform?

Generative Fill helps fill or replace a selected area using AI based on your description. Generative Expand extends an image beyond its edges to fit an aspect ratio, and Generative Transform lets you move, resize, or rotate objects while the AI fills the gap.

Can Pixlr remove backgrounds and unwanted objects?

Yes. Pixlr includes one-click background removal for clean subject isolation, and AI remove object tools that let you erase unwanted objects from photos.

What file formats can I export from Pixlr?

Pixlr supports saving/exporting in PNG, JPEG, and WEBP. Some other formats may not be available depending on the tool and workflow.

Can I use Pixlr offline?

You can use Pixlr offline by installing the Pixlr desktop apps for PC or Mac. Pixlr can also be used as a PWA in browsers for offline support, depending on availability.
