If I detect a Claude mark, does that mean Claude authored the content?

Not necessarily. A detected mark indicates the content may have been processed by Claude, but it does not by itself prove full provenance or authorship.

Can watermark detection fail even if the content was processed by Claude?

Yes. Marks may be stripped or may not be present if the text is heavily edited/paraphrased/translated, if the passage is very short, or if content was transformed (for example, through format conversion or screenshots) or produced where a marking type wasn’t supported.
