What does Ethnicity Guesser do?

The Ethnicity Guesser is a photo analysis tool that looks at pictures you share and tries to estimate what ethnic background the people in them might have.

You start by adding a photo. Drag one onto the upload area, or tap it to browse your files. JPG, PNG, and WebP formats are supported, up to 20 MB.

Clear frontal photos tend to give the most usable results. Blurry shots, side angles, and heavy shadows make the estimate less reliable.

Once the image is in, the tool runs a visual pass over it. A scan animation plays while the analysis completes.

The result screen opens with a primary estimate. Below it sits a breakdown of two to five possible backgrounds, each with a percentage and a bar showing its share.

Categories are regional rather than broad. You might see entries like Northern European, West African, or East Asian with a country attached.

A confidence badge sits under the breakdown. It reads high, medium, or low, with three dots showing the level at a glance.

The tool then splits its reasoning into three cards:

  • Facial Structure covers bone structure, nose shape, jaw angle, cheekbones, eye shape, and lip fullness
  • Skin and Complexion covers skin tone, undertones, and pigmentation patterns
  • Hair and Eye Features covers hair color, texture, thickness, and iris pigmentation

Each card explains which specific traits pointed toward which regions. This makes it easier to see what the estimate was built on.

An "Analyze Another Photo" button returns you to the upload screen. There is no limit on how many photos you can run.

The interface switches between light and dark themes automatically based on your system settings. The layout adjusts for phone screens, stacking the image above the results.

If no person is visible in the photo, the tool says so rather than guessing. Clear error screens also appear for oversized files, unsupported formats, and failed analyses, each with a retry option.

Results are estimates, not findings. Ethnicity is shaped by ancestry that appearance does not reliably reflect, and two people with similar features can have entirely different family histories. The tool carries a notice about this on every result screen.
