What does SquishyFile do?
SquishyFile is a free, browser-based video compression tool that reduces your video’s file size without installing any app and without requiring an account. Drag and drop a clip, select a compression level or enter an exact target size, then download the compressed MP4.
Compression runs locally in your browser, so your video doesn’t get uploaded to a server. Keep the tab open while it processes for the best speed—especially for larger files like 4K recordings.
SquishyFile supports common containers such as MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. Your output is exported as an MP4 for wide compatibility, and you can use target sizes to help fit platform limits (for example, presets for WhatsApp, email, and Discord).
Does SquishyFile upload my video to a server?
No—compression happens in your browser on your own device, so you don’t need an account and there’s no upload queue.
How do I compress a video to an exact size (like 25MB)?
Enter the target size in MB using the target size field, then run Squish. The tool uses that target instead of the compression level setting.
What video formats does SquishyFile support, and what do I get back?
It supports MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM (plus many other common formats). The exported result is always an MP4.
Will my compressed video look lower quality?
Some quality loss is expected since compression re-encodes the video. Use the “Light” setting when you want to keep quality close to the original, and avoid re-compressing the same file repeatedly.
Why might my output be slightly over or under the target size?
Video complexity affects how many bits are needed, so exact MB matching isn’t guaranteed. If it’s still off, try compressing again with a slightly different target size.
If my video won’t send after compressing, what should I check?
A size limit isn’t the only cause. If it fails to send, confirm you’re using the right target for the platform and review common troubleshooting for videos that don’t upload.
