QBOtoExcel is a free web tool that converts QuickBooks .qbo bank transaction files into Excel (XLSX) or CSV spreadsheets. It runs entirely in the browser, requires no account and no QuickBooks installation, and never uploads your financial data to a server.

**What is a .qbo file?**

A .qbo file is a bank transaction file that QuickBooks uses to import or exchange account activity. It is a transaction stream, not a full ledger backup: it contains the individual deposits and withdrawals that hit a bank account, encoded in an OFX-style format. QuickBooks understands it; a spreadsheet does not. That gap is exactly why people look for a QBO to Excel converter.

**How the converter works**

The workflow is three steps and stays out of the way. Drop a .qbo file into the upload box, run the conversion, and download the result. The parser reads the STMTTRN records in the file and extracts the fields that matter for reconciliation and analysis: date posted, transaction type, amount, name or payee, memo, transaction ID, and account. Each transaction becomes one row in the output, so the result is a clean, filterable table rather than a proprietary data blob.

**Two output formats**

XLSX is the natural choice when you want to keep working in Excel: the output is a single sheet you can sort, filter, add formulas to, or turn into a monthly report. CSV is the lightweight option for handing data to another system — a database, a script, or another accounting tool — because it is plain text with no formatting layer.

**Privacy by design**

The conversion runs locally in your browser. Your .qbo file, and the bank activity inside it, never leaves your device and is never uploaded to our servers. There is no signup, no tracking of your file contents, and no per-file fee: single-file conversion is free.

**Who it is for**

QBOtoExcel is built for bookkeepers, accountants, small business owners, and freelancers who receive .qbo files and need them in a spreadsheet: reconciling monthly bank activity, sending transaction detail to an accountant, building simple cash-flow views, or importing records into another tool.

**What it is not**

It is not a replacement for QuickBooks accounting, not a company ledger backup, and not bookkeeping advice. The current version converts one .qbo file at a time and does not modify your original file.
