Does Whisper Notes support streaming transcription output?
Yes. Transcription results stream in real-time as the audio is processed, so you can see text appear gradually without waiting for the full file to finish. All processing happens on-device.
Is there a recording length limit?
No. You can record for hours. Transcription time scales with audio length since everything runs on-device.
How fast is transcription?
Speed depends on your device. For example, on an iPhone 15, about 5 minutes of audio may take roughly 1 minute to transcribe. Older devices may be slower but still work fine.
What languages does it support?
100+ languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, and many more.
Can I import audio files?
Yes. Import MP3, M4A, or WAV files. Everything transcribes offline on your device.
Can I transcribe Voice Memos recordings?
Yes. In the Voice Memos app, open the recording → tap Share → Transcribe with Whisper Notes. Import and transcribe—everything runs locally on your device.
What devices are supported?
iPhone 12 and later (including Pro/Max). Mac: All Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4, etc.). Intel Macs are not supported. We recommend 8GB+ RAM for best accuracy using Whisper Large V3 Turbo.
Can I use voice typing in any Mac app?
Yes. Hold the Fn key anywhere—Gmail, Slack, VS Code, Notes, Terminal—and talk. Release the key, text appears. Works in any app with a text field, completely offline.
How much does Whisper Notes cost? Is there a subscription?
No subscriptions. Whisper Notes is a one-time purchase for $4.99 that covers iOS and Mac, with all future updates included.
Can I export transcripts with timestamps?
Yes. You can export transcripts with timestamps for reviewing or creating subtitles.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Go to Settings → Request Refund to initiate.
Why no free trial?
Whisper Notes runs completely offline for privacy. It never connects to the internet, so a traditional free online trial isn’t possible. If you’re not satisfied after purchasing, you can request a refund via Settings → Request Refund.
Why no AI summaries?
For privacy reasons, Whisper Notes doesn’t upload your recordings to cloud services, so AI-powered summaries aren’t offered. You can copy transcripts and summarize them yourself with tools like ChatGPT or Claude if you want.
Why is transcription slow on my phone?
It depends on your device. iPhone 15 is fast; older hardware (like iPhone 11) is slower due to GPU limitations. All processing is on-device, so hardware performance affects speed.
Why does it stop when I switch apps?
This is an iOS limitation: Whisper Notes uses GPU for transcription, and Apple doesn’t allow background GPU usage. If you switch apps mid-transcription, simply return to Whisper Notes and tap Re-transcribe.
