What does Markdown File Viewer do?

MD File Viewer is a free, local Markdown viewer that opens and renders .md (and related) files as formatted documents directly in your browser. Drop a file, paste Markdown, or fetch a public raw URL to see headings, tables, code blocks, math, and diagrams displayed the way you’d expect—without needing an editor.

The main features are built for reading: GFM table support, task lists, syntax-highlighted code, KaTeX math, and Mermaid diagrams. For large README-style documents, it’s designed to keep the reading experience smooth, with an outline/sidebar on wider screens to help you navigate sections quickly.

Your content stays on your device. The file is parsed and rendered locally in your browser tab, with no server copy. Close the tab and the rendered content disappears. After the first load, the page can also keep working offline.

If you need to share what you’re viewing, you can export the rendered result as a PDF, a Word .docx file, standalone HTML, or a PNG image. It’s well-suited for downloading and reading GitHub README.md files offline, reviewing documentation/changelogs, and quickly viewing Markdown from notes or AI outputs.

Is MD File Viewer free?

Yes—MD File Viewer is free to use in your browser.

What file types can I open?

Does it upload my Markdown or file to a server?

No. The Markdown is parsed and rendered locally in your browser tab, and nothing is uploaded.

How can I load a Markdown document into the viewer?

You can drag a .md file into the drop area, paste Markdown text, or fetch a public raw URL and render it from there.

Does the viewer support diagrams and math?

Yes. It supports Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX math in addition to standard Markdown rendering.

Can I export what I’m viewing?
