CodeTrain is a Socratic AI coding tutor that helps you learn a real codebase by writing the work yourself. Instead of handing you a full solution, it breaks your goal into small steps inside an editor, reviews what you typed, and keeps you on the step until your code runs and passes.

For each task, CodeTrain builds lessons around the context of your repository (or a public repo you choose). You’ll type every line, use the built-in Run button, and get targeted nudges when you get stuck—help that shrinks the next step or provides a hint, without dropping the final answer into the editor. What you learn is reinforced through review scheduling that brings back concepts you struggled with.

CodeTrain is designed for developers who want to truly understand their codebase: self-learners building skills, teams onboarding engineers into production code, and anyone who prefers “prove it by running it” learning over passive reading or generic courses. It also supports CodeTrain Open Skill inside your existing coding agent flow, with the tutor setting steps and reviewing your edits rather than solving for you.

Pricing starts free (10 lessons/month from any public repo). Pro is $24/month for your real repos via repo mode. Teams are $32 per learner/month, and Enterprise includes custom options like SSO, audit logs, and self-hosting—SOC 2 is not certified yet.

Does CodeTrain write the code for me?

No. You type each step in the editor, and CodeTrain reviews what you wrote. It never hands you the solution; it nudges you until your code runs and passes.

How does CodeTrain make lessons depend on my codebase?

On the free tier, you paste a public repository URL and the lesson is built from code in that repo. On Pro, repo mode runs against your local checkout on 127.0.0.1 so edits land in your real branch, while secrets and gitignored files are not read.

What happens if my code fails a step?

The lesson won’t advance. You stay on the step and get nudges or hints based on what you wrote, so the next step depends on passing your code.

Can I use CodeTrain without creating an account?

Yes for the live experience: you can try a lesson now with no account and no install. Account sign-in is required when building a lesson from an arbitrary repo.

What’s included in the free plan and Pro?

Free includes $0 lessons from any public repo with 10 lessons per month, synced profile + streaks, and CodeTrain Open Skill forever. Pro costs $24/month and adds repo mode for your real repos, fair-use lessons, and zero setup (plus access to experimental models from other labs).

Is CodeTrain Open Skill tied to a CodeTrain account?

Open Skill runs inside your own coding agent on your own model account and does not require a CodeTrain account. You write every line; it sets steps, gives hints, and reviews what you wrote without inserting the solution.
